In celebration of the publication of their second monograph The Merlin Years (Toronto: Narwhal Projects, 2012), please join all of the members of iconic Toronto-based art collective, Team Macho — Nicholas Aoki, Stephen Appleby-Barr, Chris Buchan & Lauchie Reid — for a talk covering recent projects including the commissioned work Axis Mundi at the AGO (2012), and their collaborative practice. Works by Team Macho are currently on display in the Drake Hotel dining room.

This is a rare opportunity to hear a talk delivered by all members of Team Macho.

A reception will follow the talk, during which Team Macho will be available for book signing and questions. Copies of the monographs on Team Macho, Fancy Action Now (2007) and The Merlin Years (2012), will be available for purchase. The Merlin Years is a richly illustrated book surveying work by Team Macho from 2007 to 2012, featuring select pieces from shows in Toronto, Montreal, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, and New York.

About Team Macho
Team Macho is comprised of Nicholas Aoki, Stephen Appleby-Barr, Christopher Buchan, and Lauchie Reid. With a practice that spans fine art and illustration, from the crudely rendered to the classically painted, Team Macho playfully juxtaposes styles and motifs. Team Macho’s work conveys a strong DIY ethos and a decidedly informal, multidisciplinary approach. With an idiosyncratic attitude toward collaboration, the group synchronously cultivates a cooperative yet highly competitive spirit, wherein the very nature of their alliance revolves around celebrating, thwarting and subverting each other’s contributions, creating seamless collaborations from the fraternal narrative that surrounds their shared studio practice.
